From gentle strolls to giant challenges: Walking routes for beginners and advanced hikers alike

Up for strapping on the hiking boots and conquering a serious challenge?  There are plenty of options for the advanced hiker.

The famous Munro of Schiehallion provide a good five or six hours of walking.  En route, you’ll take in picturesque scenes of lavish, grassy hills, rolling, hopefully deep blue skies, and awe-inspiring views across the Scottish Highlands which stretch for miles and beyond.

The Annat Loop path is classed as ‘strenuous’, and will take you on a 6.5 mile ascent around the historic settlement of Annat Village, or Tor a’Chruidh as it was known.

Prefer a walk that offers something a little less energetic? Head from the Dunalastair Hotel Suites, Loch Rannoch into the neighbouring villages for a gentle, lazy stroll around gorgeous rural pathways, each one resplendent with rare flora and fauna.

Bunrannoch House is another deserted settlement close to Kinloch Rannoch.  Take a short triangular stroll to the south of the village and you will see the humps in the field denoting the remains of the original village.

Or follow part of the Clan Trail around Loch Rannoch – starting from Kinloch Rannoch, the trail follows a relatively flat 22 mile anti-clockwise circuit of the Loch.  A series of storyboards are placed around the trail, telling fascinating and turbulent stories of the clans that were prominent in the district.
