The 2018 Etape Caledonia – An 85 Mile Adventure Like No Other
Often described as a cyclists dream, the annual mass participation cycling event gets underway just a short distance from our hotel in Pitlochry before working its way through tree-lined roads and vast, sprawling forests before tackling the tough climb to the summit of the mighty Mount Schiehallion.
On reaching the top, cyclists are rewarded with truly outstanding views of lush greenery, deep blue lochs and dramatic skies stretching far off into the mist-swept horizon.
En route, Etape Caledonia traverses the haven of tranquillity that is Kinloch Rannoch itself, takes in the majesty of Loch Tummel, and finally works its way to the finish line back in Pitlochry.
The whole route covers 85 miles, each one every bit as demanding as it is resplendent in natural Highland beauty.
For those who prefer to keep their cycling challenges a little more on the manageable side, a 40-mile route steers cyclists away from the main route at Loch Tummel before taking in Choshievelle and Aberfeldy en route back to Pitlochry.
Meanwhile, the Etape Caledonia serves as the perfect location not only for riders to celebrate taking on this truly impressive challenge, but for spectators and well-wishers to soak up the vibrant atmosphere and join in the festivities.
