Ready? Step back in time with us, dear reader, and let us take you back to the beginning of our journey.

2 Years to Reopening: Asking the Big Questions

Over the years, the Dunalastair Hotel Suites had developed a reputation for offering boutique accommodation in Scotland that went above and beyond the norm. We were proud to be known as the one Highland hotel where you could expect exemplary service, exceptional comfort, and a certain sense of timeless style.

Yet even we knew we couldn’t rest on our laurels forever. If we were to continue providing first class guest experience for many years to come, we had to step back, take stock, and really get to know what our guests expect from us.

It was time to reach out, and to ask you those big questions.

  • How can we improve?
  • How can we better tailor our service to create the perfect Scottish hotel experience for every guest?
  • What services, amenities, or features could we incorporate into our boutique accommodation packages to make your stay with us all the more memorable?

In other words: How can we continue to ensure that the Dunalastair Hotel Suites is Scotland’s premier boutique hotel?

18 months to reopening: Taking Action

After extensive and exhausting research with both past guests and those who’d never enjoyed the Dunalastair Experience before, we started to look closely at the answers you gave to our big questions.

We talked among ourselves for a long time, not only about your expectations of our hotel, but about what we could do to surpass those expectations each and every time you stay with us.

It was time to take action.

12 months to reopening: Renovation Begins

Based on your feedback, we knew it was time to really give our hotel a full makeover. We knew that when you came to stay with us, you wanted to stay in boutique accommodation that really complimented the beauty and majesty of the surrounding Scottish Highlands. We knew that you wanted to come and relax in spacious, luxury hotel suites which combined a traditional Highland charm with a certain air of contemporary style. We knew then, it was time to get the experts involved.

Some of Scotland’s top interior designers and decorators were called in, walls were stripped, the old style was gone, gradually replaced with an elegant decor which perfectly matched our picturesque surroundings.

9 months to reopening: Redesigning our Luxury Boutique Hotel Suites

With work on renovating our luxury Scottish hotel well under way, we knew we had to do something about the furnishings and fittings. After all, timeless style and decor which a touch of modern elegance may be all well and good, but it lacks a certain something if it isn’t suitably complemented by luxurious fabrics, beautifully designed furniture, and a layout which really made the most of the ample space in each boutique hotel suite.

Working hands on with our expert interior designer, we started to pick out the finest quality egyptian cotton for our beds, to select soft, sumptuous towels and bathrooms for our exquisite en suite bathrooms, and to source premium quality furniture from some of Scotland’s most sought-after master craftsman.

8 months to reopening: Adding Services for All Types of Family Holidays and Activity Breaks in Scotland

As important as it was -and still is- to ensure that our boutique hotel suites both look and feel incredible, when you’re staying in such a picture perfect part of the country as Perthshire, the last thing you want to do is spend all of your time indoors.

You want to be out there, exploring the hills and valleys of the dramatic Scottish Highlands, fishing for salmon among the oasis of tranquility that is Loch Rannoch, or experiencing the excitement of one of the area’s many cycling and walking trails.

That’s why, with eight months to go before our first guests are due to arrive in May, our team started to plan new features and services to help you really make the most of your Scottish Highland getaway.

We purchased top of the range bicycles which will be available for hire for those who want the enjoyment of a Scotland cycling holiday without the hassle of bringing your own bikes. We started compiling guides to the best local attractions and events to include in our state-of-the-art eConcierge directory, and -above all else- we started to ensure that we had everything our guests could need to really a family holiday or activity break here in Scotland.

7 months to go: Relaunching the Monadh Dining

Monadh Dining is our own on-site eatery, where guests can indulge in the best of British cuisine, traditional Scottish dishes, and light bites from morning ‘til night. To ensure the restaurant was perfectly in keeping with the exceptional luxury and five star feel of our hotel, we had some work to do.

The same interior design time that helped us to renovate our boutique hotel suites got to work on redesigning and redecorating the fine dining restaurant, whilst our renowned chef sat down with us to start planning out a mouthwatering menu of dishes ready for our opening weekend.

Whilst all this was going on, our in-room entertainment packages, digital eConcierge systems, and powerful hotel WiFi were all being installed, ready to deliver all the modern comforts you’d expect, even in the remote Scottish Highlands.
