Blair Atholl

A historic 17th century castle, some ‘big trees’ and a spectacular waterfall.  Blair Atholl has it all.

A highly popular region for cycling and walking holidays, the historic area of Blair Atholl is less than 35 minutes’ drive away from the Dunalastair Hotel Suites in Perthshire.

An area of outstanding natural beauty

With the vivacious River Garry connecting it to the neighbouring villages of Killiecrankie, Bruar, and Calvine & Struan, Blair Atholl’s truly remarkable natural beauty is sure to take your breath away, even if one of the area’s many exhilarating mountain bike trails, hiking trails, or walking paths don’t.

Yet it’s not just the area’s majestic mountains, lavish hills and glens, and vibrant waters that make the area such a hit with visitors.

Blair Castle

Epitomising the vast rich history of the Scottish Highlands, the magnificent Blair Castle stands at the very heart of Blair Atholl. Offering a fascinating insight into Scottish life from the 17th century onwards, visitors to the castle often come away equally as enthralled by Blair Castle’s stories as they do the gorgeous surroundings of its grounds and gardens.

A short walk across the village, you’ll also find the Atholl Country Life Museum, offering a rare glimpse into the life and legacy of those who made their home here in Perthshire throughout the centuries.

Perthshire is known as Big Tree Country, and the enchanting ‘Diana’s Grove’ within the grounds of Blair Castle is a good place to see some really big trees!  Two acres of woodland within the Atholl Estate hold a nationally important collection of exotic conifers.

Falls of Bruar

The landscape is a testament to the poet Robert Burns, who inspired the 4th Duke of Atholl to plant the once bare river banks in his poem ‘The Humble Petition of Bruar Water to the Noble Duke of Atholl’ resulting in the beautiful woodlands you see today.  Take a circular walk climbing up the gorge to view the series of waterfalls which drop around 60 meters.

Action and adventure at every turn

Prefer something a little more adrenalin charged when you visit the Dunalastair Hotel’s Perthshire holiday suites?

The famous Blair Atholl and Glen Bruar mountain biking route provides an exciting ride from Blair Castle itself all the way through to Bruar and Beinn Dearg, crossing spectacular pine and redwood forests, vibrant rivers, and challenging dirt tracks en route.
