A true haven of tranquillity in the heart of Highland Perthshire, Kinloch Rannoch has long enjoyed the attentions and affections of the world’s media.
First, it was the likes of Forbes, Harper’s Bazaar and The Telegraph that lavished praise on our Loch Rannoch hotel. Now, it’s Channel 4 who have added their names to an ever-growing list of those that have fallen head-over-heels with our Highland Charm.
Last month, the TV channel stopped by the village that we at the Dunalastair Hotel Suites call home to film scenes for Penelope Keith’s Village of the Year.
‘A Peaceful Paradise’
Speaking fondly of the breathtaking, nine-mile long Loch Rannoch, the centrepiece of an area resplendent with natural beauty, Ms Keith called the village a ‘peaceful paradise’ whose remote nature is all part of its appeal.
Here at our Kinloch Rannoch hotel, we’ve certainly found that our location, a scenic two-hour drive from Edinburgh and Dundee is one of the main reasons so many choose to come and stay with us.
For those guests, it’s the rare opportunity to truly get away from it all and escape from it all, not to mention the enthralling scenery, full of what Penelope Keith called “rolling lowland pastures and dramatic mountains,” that really make our quiet, picturesque village such a haven for Highland holidays.
Not that the awe-inspiring views and certain graceful serenity are the only reasons the village found ourselves on the hit Channel 4 show.
An Authentic Highland Experience
When we weren’t busy looking out for shots of our own Loch Rannoch hotel, we found that Village of The Year reminded us of the way the gentle, lapping water of the loch itself sounds so soothing that you could easily lose hours simply sitting back and relaxing by the water’s edge.
For those who prefer a little more adventure and excitement from their Scottish break, the Village of The Year Award served as a perfect introduction to the wealth of things to see, do, and explore in and around Kinloch Rannoch.
Based just a few minutes from the Dunalastair Hotel Suites, Rannoch Archery featured prominently on the show, as did the opportunities for fishing and deer stalking in unmistakably enchanting surroundings that are so abundant here in Highland Perthshire.
That said, a highlight of the show for us was watching Penelope Keith become as utterly fascinated by the wealth of magnificent wildlife that roam throughout the area, particularly the beautiful, hand-reared deer that make their home nearby.
And of course, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the focal point of Ms. Keith’s here in Kinloch Rannoch – the annual Rannoch Highland Gathering.
Taking place each summer just a stone’s throw away from our luxury hotel, many of our guests have previously told us the event served as the highlight of their holiday in Scotland.
Bringing together ancient highland games such as caber tossing, hammer throwing, hill racing, traditional Scottish country dancing and music with children’s entertainment and stalls selling homemade, handcrafted goods, the Highland Gathering doesn’t just offer a fun-filled day out for the whole family, but a unique chance to enjoy a truly authentic Scottish experience.
